Big Game Observation - Cades Cove
Set out through Cades Cove with program director Joel Zachry and his KOWA ® spotting scope in search of up-close views, first of turkey, then deer, maybe a few black bear, and if luck prevails, a wild hog. Before departure the instructor will speak of the rules for viewing and safety of the backcountry and then we'll carpool for an enjoyable foray. After an abundant fall mast crop, fattened mother bears who denned and then birthed numerous cubs for possible viewing as early summer and fall come forth. Zachry has guided in black and brown bear country from the Appalachians to Alaska since the 1980s. He brings experience, knowledge of the bruin, and tips for distant sighting, all making for an educational, fun-filled day.
